January Spin-In 2009!

  • Jan. 29th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
The theme this year was "Over the Top" and we could translate that any way we wanted. I can't take credit for thinking up this crazy hat (saw one similar at SAFF), but I can take credit for the knitting, crocheting, and embroidery to create this particular hat.

Meet "Woolard" (southern pronunciation  of "Willard")

Woolard is made completely from my earliest handspun.

The hat is knitted using a loop stitch and the head is shaped using short rows.
The yarn for the head is a poor grade of Romney I spun long ago.
The err... thing-a-ma-jigs are knitted from some unidentified sheep
I spun some time back.
The legs are felted wool roving (I ran out of handspun and time to spin more).
His hoofs and eyeballs are crocheted.
The nose and mouth are embroidered with scarps of handspun wool.
The nose is embroidered with some hideous pink I spun and will be using for
the Sock It to Me challenge.
Yes, I already have a project lined up for January Spin-In 2010!

Calendar of Hope

  • Oct. 15th, 2008 at 1:28 PM

The Dishcloth Designers Yahoo Group has put together a calendar with 13 dishcloth and tawashi(check out the Tata Tawashi by Rhonda White below) patterns. We did this to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. The calendars are downloadable and being sold by KnitPink who donates all the proceeds to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We chose KnitPink because she will take care of promoting and selling the calendars and many of our designers are Canadian.

I have a cloth that was designed from one of the patterns in The Art of Knitting 1897. I call it Ribbons of Hope.
