Not so "Ordinary" baby bib and dishcloth

  • May. 4th, 2008 at 3:49 PM
What's an Ordinary?
For those of you who are not bicycle enthusiasts, an ordinary is an old-fashioned high wheel bicycle.
I've been wanting to knit one of these for a long time now and finally got around to charting and writing out the pattern.

The bib is unique in that it doesn't tie (choke the poor baby), velcro (sticks to everything in the washer), or button (swallowed).
The i-cord knot slips through a knitted-in button hole.
If you make the bib from dishcloth yarn (Peaches & Cream) it will shrink and become thicker and more absorbent when it is washed. Also my granddaughter loved chewing on the rough fabric. I used 2 strands of Mississippi 3 by Katia. Any type of worsted cotton will do.

And if you don't need a bib — make a dishcloth or washcloth!
The pattern is available for sale on my website.

Saartje Booties and E-Z Heart Hat

  • Apr. 26th, 2008 at 3:52 PM
I made these booties and hat for a friends new granddaughter who will be arriving any minute now. This is the Saartje Bootie.

I had the buttons on hand and they reminded me of Elizabeth Zimmerman's Heart Hat from Knitting Workbook so I had to make it too to go with the booties.

Rambling Rows Blanket finished at last!

  • Sep. 1st, 2007 at 1:42 PM
I finally completed the Rambling Rows Blanket (Cottage Creations pattern) for Isaiah who should be arriving mid-Oct. The blanket is made of Lion Brand Cotton Ease. All of these colors have been discontinued and I had them all in my stash except Blueberry. An internet friend kindly sold me a couple of balls and a good friend gave me a ball of the blueberry. I love mitered squares and enjoyed knitted the blanket. It's all in garter stitch which made it go fast. I finished the blanket with an attached i-cord. This took almost as long to knit as did the blanket but was worth the effort.

If you remember, I started this blanket with mitered squares and mosaic patterns which were way too busy and garish.

At the suggestion of my knitting friends, I took the squares apart (no easy task) and made dishcloths!
They will make nice Xmas gifts.
